WHERE CAN I CONNECT WITH THE ACADEMY ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
Each location will have a local host and their own social media home as well!
ARE THERE GROUP RATES AVAILABLE?
Certainly! Many choirs use this event as a beginning-of-school-year retreat! See more details about the group discounts for the 2023 season HERE. Your school will pay a $250 flat fee plus a sharply reduced fee for each participant – teachers and students will receive a 50% discount!
The students of the group will be registered and invoiced as a unit, not individually. After your initial registration, we will ask for the name, voice part, and email address for each member of the registered group, so that we can send out music, lunch requests, etc.
YOU SAID, “LUNCH?”
Yes! We include a Subway lunch for each participant to allow the lunch break to be spent connecting with your local vocal jazz community, jamming, etc. We will have a general selection of sandwiches listed on the registration form. Every attempt will be made to accommodate special dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.). You will also have the option to decline the lunch and bring your own. Lunch is ONLY available to people who register online in advance.
WHEN CAN I GET THE MASS CHOIR MUSIC?
Music will be distributed to participants approximately two weeks before your local event, in a downloadable app specific to your Academy location. Part tracks and reference recordings will be available as well. You will be responsible for bringing your own music to the event – whether printed or digital.
ARE THERE AGE RESTRICTIONS ON THE STUDENT OR TEACHER TRACK?
No, it is up to each person to determine which track suits them best. The biggest difference (besides which community you want to spend the most time with) is that the Teacher Track includes the publisher packets for Anchor Music Publications, independent vocal jazz publishers, and more. These packets are NOT available to those registered in the Student Track.
While we welcome all ages of students to participate, we recommend that students under the age of 14 be accompanied by an adult (parent/guardian/teacher).
WHEN DOES REGISTRATION CLOSE?
Secure the lowest rates by registering by the deadline for each location (usually three weeks before the local event). Late registration is accepted online up until three days before the event.
WHAT ABOUT WALK-UP REGISTRATION?
Participants can register starting at 8:30 AM on the morning of the Academy. The late registration rate will be charged, and lunch CANNOT be provided for you.
IS EACH ACADEMY LOCATION AND SETUP IDENTICAL?
The general structure and schedule is the same, but each location is customized to fit the needs of each local vocal jazz community. In particular, the breakout sessions are altered and rotated so that no two Academy experiences are exactly the same.
Maps, driving directions, the final schedule and other information will be delivered exclusively through the Academy app for each location – available to participants after payment for registration has been completed.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Comfortable, casual summer or fall wear is perfect! We have exclusive Academy T-shirts available both at pre-registration and on-site. Or, you can purchase them right now! Oh, and we recommend comfy shoes for your time on stage with the Mass Choir!
HOW BIG ARE THE MASS CHOIRS?
Mass choirs in previous Academies have ranged in size from 50 to 140 people! The larger locations may end up having both a Student Mass Choir and a Teacher Mass Choir.
